A Gentle Beginning

The most meaningful gift you can give this holiday season isn’t wrapped in paper or tied with ribbon — it’s your presence.
In a world that glorifies doing, true healing begins in being.
Being here.
Being real.
Being with yourself long enough to feel what’s true.
But if you’ve lived in survival mode — constantly meeting others’ needs, multitasking, or performing for peace — slowing down to be present can feel uncomfortable or even unsafe.
Presence isn’t about perfection. It’s about intentional attention — choosing to notice the
moment you’re in and the soul that’s right in front of you, including your own.
Why Presence Heals
Presence resets the body’s stress chemistry. When you pause and notice your breath, cortisol lowers and oxytocin — the chemical of connection and trust — begins to rise.
Spiritually, presence opens a channel to Divine awareness — that gentle reminder:
You are not alone.
This is why the nervous system softens when you truly connect with yourself or another person. It’s not just emotional — it’s physiological and spiritual alignment.
At Cross Reference Healing, I help women re-teach their bodies that it’s safe to slow down, to feel, and to stay — so peace becomes a living experience, not a temporary escape.
How to Be Fully Here — Body, Mind, and Spirit
Presence isn’t something you think about — it’s something you feel through your body. It’s the quiet agreement between your mind, your heart, and your breath that says, “I am here, now.”
When you’ve spent years in survival or constant motion, being fully present takes practice. The body may want to move, the mind may wander, or emotions may rise that you didn’t know were waiting.
That’s not failure — that’s information. Presence reveals what’s been waiting to be witnessed.
Here are gentle ways to practice being fully here:
1. Anchor Into Your Senses
When your mind drifts or stress pulls you away, bring your awareness to one of your five senses. Notice the warmth of your mug, the sound of a loved one’s voice, the scent of winter air, or the rhythm of your breath. Sensation grounds the body in the present moment — the only place peace can actually exist.
2. Breathe to Receive, Not Control
Most of us use breath to manage stress, but true presence comes when you let the breath move you. Inhale softly through your nose and feel your ribs expand.Exhale slowly through your mouth and let your shoulders drop. This simple rhythm activates the vagus nerve, calming the nervous system and signaling to the brain: “I’m safe to stay.”
3. Let Emotions Have Their Say
When you slow down, feelings you’ve outrun may catch up. That’s okay.Presence is about listening, not fixing. If tears rise, or fatigue shows up, honor it.Whisper: “Thank you for showing me what needs care. ”This is how the heart clears space for peace to settle in.
4. Look With the Eyes of Spirit
Whether you’re alone or with others, choose to see through love’s perspective. Notice the small sacred things — the laughter, the pauses, the divine details you usually rush past. Seeing through Spirit’s eyes transforms ordinary moments into holy ground.
Each of these practices restores balance between body chemistry and divine energy — lowering cortisol, increasing oxytocin, and re-teaching your body that connection is safe.Presence, at its core, is love embodied.
Presence as a Spiritual Practice
Presence is prayer without words. It’s the sacred pause that allows God, Spirit, or Divine Light to meet you right where you are. When you choose to be fully here — not lost in what was or what’s next — you create room for grace to move.
This holiday, your intentional presence may be the peace someone else has been
praying for — including you.
A Closing Reflection
The greatest present is presence.
Every moment of genuine attention is an act of love — for yourself, for those around you, and for the One who created you.
As you move through this season, may you feel the peace that comes from simply being here — whole, worthy, and awake.
If you’re ready to bring this kind of peace into the new year, I’d love to hold space for you.
